CAN FD Implementation For a Battery Emulator Project

News
CAN FD EV battery TKE Project

TKE collaborated with reverse engineering specialist Daniel Öster to sponsor the Battery-Emulator project aimed at the development of extending the lifespan of EV batteries and repurposing them for stationary storage. Daniel Öster’s expertise in reverse engineering and EV batteries, coupled with TKE’s funding, led to fine advancements in his Battery-Emulator project.

Project Development

The Battery-Emulator project is a software solution that enables EV battery packs to be repurposed for stationary storage. By converting EV battery CAN data into a format compatible with solar inverters, the software facilitates easy and cost-effective utilization of large EV batteries in stationary applications. This innovative approach allows for a true plug-and-play experience, unlocking the potential for widespread adoption of EV batteries in stationary storage solutions.

CAN FD Compliant CANtrace & U100P interface

Daniel reached out to TKE needing an CAN FD capable tool to integrate Kia/Hyundai 800V batteries for the Battery-Emulator project. TKE sponsored this collaboration by providing a CANtrace Analyzer software and a Kvaser U100P interface.

The Kvaser U100P, is a CAN FD capable interface with advanced features including precise timestamping, synced time measurements across multiple devices, and silent mode for listening to the CAN bus. Pairing the Kvaser interface with TKE’s CANtrace software, CAN network analysis was possible. The CANtrace software enables real-time tracing, decoding, and plotting of CAN messages and signals, as well as logging for post-processing convenience.

Together, the combination of the two products enables efficient system development and troubleshooting capabilities both in the office and in on-site applications.

Testing with solid hardware and software made a huge difference! The fact that you don’t have to worry about the real-time nature of the whole testing process makes development much more efficient!
